Screenshot 2015-09-05 12.16.52Spotted at the delicatessen counter at Marks & Spencer in the Gyle on Friday was none other than group chief executive Marc Bolland.

He was briefing a group of Scottish investors on the delights on offer.

Bolland is a foodie and known to be passionate about the company’s range so he wasn’t intent on leaving the presentation to any of his staff. Those who overheard him say he was well informed about the products on offer.

Food was again strong in the first quarter with like-for-like sales up by 0.3%. The company launched 700 lines including the new Taste of the British Isles range.

It is on track to open about 90 Simply Food stores this year, and continues to see good performance from existing stores. One store is believed to be opening in Leith Walk, Edinburgh.

The company is also revamping its promotion of clothing with an emphasis on its distinctive design and quality.
