Historic pub rescued by accountant
Former Houston coaching inn back in business
An accountant and his wife have teamed up with a restaurateur to take over one of the west of Scotland’s historic pubs.
Graeme and Karen Finnie, together with Jason Andrews, have acquired the Fox & Hounds in Houston, Renfrewshire. The former coaching inn, dating back to 1779, shut after falling into administration last year.
It had been owned by the same family since 1978 before being sold two years ago.
Mr Finnie, managing partner at French Duncan chartered accountants, said: “As long-term local residents, we were dismayed when The Fox & Hounds closed its doors. My wife and I saw a chance to save a local icon.
“We were delighted when Jason agreed to take over the venue and run it. With Jason as the proprietor, the future of the Fox & Hounds is secure.”
Mr Andrews, proprietor of the nearby River Inn, said: “I am proud to be involved in the re-launch and running of this famous venue. We already have big plans in store.”
The new owners have already embarked on a comprehensive refurbishment programme with the aim of reopening in November.
