Firms pitch for support

Earl urges start-ups to join the global journey

Duke of YorkThe Earl of Inverness, aka the Duke of York, offered his personal backing to emerging enterprises in Edinburgh today in their bid to become global businesses.

Speaking at the Pitch at the Palace at Dynamic Earth, he said the scheme, working with Informatics Ventures, had itself grown rapidly.

More than 20 start-up and early stage businesses gave presentations to a panel of judges in a bid to secure a place at a boot camp in London in November.

“What started out as something small and manageable is grown enormously and this year we have expanded the pitch,” said the Earl.

“We hope we are in a position to add value, to take businesses where they may not be able to go on their own. Being able to to find ways of building great businesses faster so they can establish themselves in a global market is important for the UK.”
