Ties that go neck and neck with fashion
Hannah Carpenter’s barman partner Matthew Cox one day told her he was fed up with his tie getting in the way of serving drinks.
So she came up with a bow-tie – and a business idea. She now makes a range of ties from her studio in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge district.
Hannah’s business, the Edinburgh Bow Tie Company, is among more than a hundred currently showing at the city’s West End Fair, from potters and jewellers to illustrators and bag makers.
“I get all kinds of customers, from children wanting to look like Dr Who to elderly gents who regard a bow tie as a symbol of sophistication,” said Hannah.
