Further acquisition for Perth tycoon

Souter expands in NZ under InMotion brand

Sir Brian contributorSouter Holdings has acquired New Zealand coach operator Reesby Buses in the same week that its transport businesses in the country relaunched as InMotion Group.

Sir Brian Souter, group chairman, said putting the bus, coach and ferry businesses together was an obvious next step in the group’s growth and development. Reesbty will join recent acquisitions and and other transport businesses.

“We felt it was time that the group’s growing transport interests in New Zealand had a separate identity,” said the Stagecoach boss.

The company said InMotion reflects its focus on growing its urban, city to city, charter and tour service bus and coach businesses and its ferry operations.

Bill Rae will head InMotion Group and the management structure at the various operating companies would remain unchanged.

The acquisition of Reesby, expands the InMotion Group’s operations to more than 340 buses and coaches and 17 ferries, carrying over 16 million passengers each year within and between towns and cities across New Zealand.

Mr Rae said: “A number of provincial urban services in the North Island are coming up for tender, and we will be looking very closely at all of those opportunities.”
