Transfer deadline: Simunovic, Christie poised for Celtic

CelticCeltic appear to have sealed the £4 million transfer of Dinamo Zagreb defender Jozo Simunovic after the Croatian club updated their supporters on the club’s website.

As the transfer deadline looms, Simunovic’s arrival is another signal that Dutchman Virgil van Dijk will complete an £11.5 million move to Southampton.

The Croatian youngster is in Scotland for a medical and, according the Dinamo website, the contract between the clubs has been signed and will become valid soon after the examination.

Celtic have also agreed to send coaches to Dinamo’s football academy.

Simunovic, who has yet to feature for the Croatian national team, will become the third central defender to sign for the Parkhead club this summer, adding to Dedryck Boyata from Manchester City and Tyler Blackett on loan from Manchester United.

Ryan ChristieInverness manager John Hughes has intervened in the possible transfer of Ryan Christie (pictured) to Celtic.

Hughes says the player dubbed “the new Gareth Bale”  he is worth more than the £500,000 being offered by the Glasgow club.

The Scottish champions are willing to loan the 20-year-old back to Inverness, but Hughes thinks other clubs could come in for him, including those in England who may be prepared to pay substantially more.

Celtic have also been linked to a bid for Sunderland‘s Scottish striker Steven Fletcher while Spanish La Liga outfit Getafe are eyeing a late move to take striker Stefan Scepovic from Celtic back to Spain.

Scepovic joined Celtic last summer from Sporting Gijon after a prolific campaign regularly hitting the back of the net in Spain’s second tier.

Hibs have signed Chelsea youngster Islam Feruz on a season-long loan deal, subject to international clearance.

Somalian-born Feruz, 19, has yet to play a game for the English Champions, having spent spells on loan with OFI in Crete and Blackpool following his controversial switch from Celtic to London four years ago.

Dundee have signed youngster Riccardo Calder on loan from Aston Villa. The 19-year-old left-sided midfielder has been involved in squads for Tim Sherwood’s side and featured for the first-team in pre-season games.

Shrewsbury’s Scottish midfielder Martin Woods has had his contract terminated by mutual consent and re-joined Ross County where he spent last season.  He has signed a two-year deal with the Staggies, with the option of a third

Crystal Palace midfielder Barry Bannan is set to complete a switch to Sheffield Wednesday. The Scot is poised for a move to the Championship club today.

Manchester United were among the busiest clubs. They are on the verge of securing Monaco forward Anthony Martial for £36m. Javier Hernandez has completed a £7.3m move to Bayer Leverkusen. Hernandez scored 59 goals in 156 games for United.

The £29m sale of goalkeeper David De Gea to Real Madrid that would have see Keylor Navas move to Old Trafford appeared be off. Real were also said to have rejected a £73m offer from United for Gareth Bale.
