End of bachelor days
Neil ties knot with ‘the Swedish engineer’
The so-called bachelor of Fleet Street has finally met his match. Andrew Neil, former editor of The Sunday Times and one-time publisher at The Scotsman, has tied the knot with Susan Nilsson, 20 years his junior.
Mr Neil, 66, announced the news on his Twitter account: “Secret is out! So thought y’all might like a picture! Married Magonosc, Grasse, August 8th to the Swedish Engineer,” he said.
The couple were married near Neil’s villa in the south of France, attended only by neighbours in the town. Deal Or No Deal presenter Noel Edmonds and his wife Elizabeth Davies were the only celebrity couple to be present. Photographs also posted on Twitter featured the newlyweds’ dog, Molly.
Mr Neil now presents the BBC’s live political shows – Daily Politics, Sunday Politics and This Week – and is chairman the group that owns the Spectator, the political magazine.
He and Nilsson have been an item for almost five years. She is a polo enthusiast and economics graduate and is the director of communications of engineering and environmental consultancy the Waterman Group.
