International Festival opens
EIF heading for record ticket sales
More than £3 million has been taken ahead of the opening event on Friday, with up to 10,000 people expected to gather outside the Usher Hall for a spectacular laser show.
Popular events this year include the American singer-songwriter Surfjan Stevens and the Glasgow indie-rock band Franz Ferdinand (picture). The Hub at the top of the Royal Mile will become a cabaret club for the first time..
This year’s operatic productions The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro are close to selling out while the Greek tragedy Antigone, featuring Oscar-winning actress Juliette Binoche, is also expected to be popular.
Attendances at the EIF have been encouraging in recent years with 20,000 more tickets sold at its events in 2014 compared to 2012.
