Cunningham to head up new division for IMES

IMES Group CunninghamIMES Group has appointed Colin Cunningham to head up a new business in offshore safety and integrity.

The Aberdeen-based company has made a six-figure investment in its Marine Safety Systems (MSS) division with six jobs already created and a further four to follow by the end of the year.

Mr Cunningham is appointed operations director and with more than 35 years oil and gas experience, brings a wealth of industry knowledge having most recently worked as global director of launch and recovery systems at Survitec Group.

Prior to that, he was operations director for marine and offshore operations at Cosalt Offshore. He has also performed senior roles, both in the UK and internationally, specialising in the global marine safety sector.

Initially located at the company’s Bridge of Don headquarters, IMES plans to move its MSS division to a dedicated facility in the north-east by the end of the year to support expected growth.

Rod Buchan, executive chairman at IMES Group, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Colin on board at what is an extremely exciting time for the business. We feel there is a real gap in the market for the kind of service offered by the new Marine Safety Systems division and have already received a positive response from prospective clients.

“As part of our strategic growth plan, we are actively expanding into adjacent spaces around our core business. We see moving into the marine safety systems area as a natural fit given the extensive subsea and marine knowledge possessed by our team as well as the company’s range of industry-recognised accreditations.”

Mr Cunningham said: “The launch of MSS will bring significant cost savings to businesses across the oil and gas and commercial marine industries as well as an increased level of technical assurance.

“While our primary focus is the oil and gas and commercial marine industries in and around Aberdeen, I see real potential for this service to take off in other parts of the country – particularly around IMES’ existing UK operational locations.”
