Canteen cut was unpopular

Skeoch expected to boost morale at Standard Life

Keith SkeochDavid Nish’s exit from the top job at Standard Life could herald further changes, not least in relations between the top brass and the staff.

Rumour is that new chief executive Keith Skeoch, who came from a close-knit culture at James Capel, will tackle what one well-placed observer described as an erosion of morale at Lothian Road. This followed some cutbacks, such as closure of the staff canteen.

The source said: “David did some great things with the company but he knew the price of everything and the value of nothing. You need to take your staff with you, and cutting back on the things that help people enjoy their work is not the way to go about it.”

There is also speculation that Skeoch, who moves up from chief executive of Standard Life Investments, will instigate a reshuffle at the life and pensions business.
