Investment follows year of success
McGhee’s to invest £3m in bakery expansion
McGhee’s Bakery is investing £3 million to extend its flagship Glasgow bakery which will increase production capacity by 33%. The Port Dundas based firm says turnover this year is likely to grow by 10%.
Its plans coincide with its 80th anniversary and follow a hat-trick of wins at the recent 2015 Scottish Baker of the Year Awards. The extension to its bakery at the M8 Food Park is due for completion in spring next year.
Gordon McGhee, managing director of the family firm, said: “Everyone at McGhee’s Bakery was extremely proud of our achievements at the 2015 Scottish Baker of the Year Awards.
“The business has enjoyed strong growth following our move to the M8 Food Park ten years ago and we are fully focussed on further building our reputation and offering.
“Our significant investment in extending the bakery will help us consolidate and expand that offering to customers, in particular in the export market and frozen food sectors.
“The success enjoyed by McGhee’s Bakery at Scottish Baker of the Year 2015 was beyond everyone’s expectations. It is an absolutely superb result for the business and testament to the hard work, craft and dedication of the whole team across all sites.
“Year on year, we have worked tirelessly to build our brand, keeping a keen eye on costs and quality, while constantly investing in expansion of our site, production capacity and flexibility for customers.”
