Diageo preparing to announce deal
Gleneagles ‘sold’ to boutique hotel operator
Gleneagles Hotel and golf resort is expected to be sold to a London-based boutique hotel operator for more than £150m.
Drinks giant Diageo, the current owner of the Perthshire complex, has agreed a deal with Ennismore Capital, according to property sources.
It has been reported that Ennismore has been chosen ahead of KSL Capital Partners, which owns The Belfry, and Ralph Trustees, owner of London’s Athenaeum hotel.
An announcement could be made as early as next week.
Diageo, the Johnnie Walker to Guinness drinks group, has itself been the subject of takeover speculation in recent weeks.
The price is subject to some speculation but it is thought Diageo has been able to capitalise on the worldwide attention that Gleneagles attracted as host of last year’s hugely successful Ryder Cup golf tournament.
Ennismore, which is privately owned, operates two hotels under The Hoxton brand in Shoreditch and Holborn in Central London.
A Diageo spokesman said the company had nothing further to add to previous statements.
