Underwriting authority for broker

Bruce Stevenson strikes landmark deal with Hiscox

Justin Gott and Mark RichardsIndependent Scottish broker Bruce Stevenson has struck a landmark underwriting deal with Hiscox, one of the world’s biggest insurers.

As the only Scottish broker to be awarded ‘delegated authority’ to underwrite business on behalf of Hiscox it means Bruce Stevenson will be more involved in managing the firm’s clients, rather than acting purely as an intermediary.

Mark Richards, private clients director for Bruce Stevenson, described it as an  “extremely positive development” that “will deliver real benefits in terms of tailored and enhanced cover for our existing and potential clients.”

Justin Gott, head of art and private client at Hiscox UK, said the company had worked with Bruce Stevenson for a number of years. “Awarding them delegated authority status was an easy decision and a natural next-step for us,” he said.

Bruce Stevenson, which launched in 1981, has recently added a Galashiels office to others in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and London.

It is the largest independent insurance broker in Edinburgh and the second largest in Scotland.
