£6m expansion project unveiled

Ocean Terminal walkway plan for Royal Yacht Britannia

Royal YachtOcean Terminal, the shopping centre in Leith, has unveiled a £6 million expansion plan that may include a new walkway
alongside the Royal Yacht Britannia and sea-fronting bars and restaurants.

Resolution Property, which owns the centre, say there are also proposals for a hotel, flats and an extension to the fashion chain H&M.

Plans for a walkway are part of wider demands for a coastal path which was first proposed in 2004 by designer Sir Terry Farrell but never came to fruition.

Resolution says the expansion of Ocean Terminal has been approved following rejection by city planners of proposals to extend Fort Kinnaird which, it claims, would have diverted shoppers from the city centre.

The council is due to decide on extending the tram line from the city to Newhaven in what would be another boost to Ocean Terminal.
