‘Fearless’ brewer wins guest ale deal with Aldi
Fledgling Glasgow brewery, the Drygate Brewing Co, has secured a deal with discount supermarket chain Aldi to stock its beer.
Aldi will feature an exclusive selection of Drygate’s ales for the retailer’s new Guest Ale of the Month promotion.
Drygate, which was only established last May as a partnership between C&C Group and William Bros Brew Co, will be supplying Aldi’s 59 Scottish stores with 12,000 bottles.
The contract is worth around £17,000. The brewery currently employs seven staff and turnover is set to reach more than £350,000 in its first year.
Colin Johnston, operations director at Drygate, said: “Not only is the contract a fantastic opportunity for us as a young business, but it will be great to see our beers reaching a wider audience.
“These small batch beers – crafted in Glasgow on the Drygate Studio Kit – embody our ethos of brewing fearlessly to achieve the exceptional. They each make for a unique discovery and we hope Aldi customers enjoy drinking them.”
Richard Holloway, managing director for Aldi in Scotland, said: “This contract with Drygate is the latest example of our support for the brewing industry in Scotland.
“We have experience of working with some of the best breweries in the country so are confident that we will be able to maximise the popularity of Drygate’s ales through our new Guest Ale of the Month promotion in store.”
