Aldi to open 70 stores as march of the discounters continues

AldiDiscount supermarket chain Aldi is opening 70 stores creating 5,000 staff this year as another sign that the budget end of the sector is tightening the squeeze on the Big Four.

Aldi currently has 560 stores and along with fellow German chain Lidl, it continues to expand across Britain. Aldi now has a 4.8% market share and Lidl 3.5%.

Aldi is well known for offering generous starting salaries at £35,800 and has been rated one of the UK’s top graduate employers.
