500% uplift in New Year orders
Asda raises steaks for Falkirk butcher’s pies
The growing tradition for eating steak pies on New Year’s Day has lifted orders for one Scots butcher by 500%.
Malcolm Allan says about 200,000 pies will be produced for customers of Asda allow this Hogmanay.
This represents just over a third of the total 575,000 that the Falkirk-based company sells to Asda stores across Scotland each year.
The company says this is enough to feed 2.3 million people. If the pies were piled up on top of each the pile would be 1,237 times the height of the Kelpies.
The firm also sold 11 million sausages last year, enough to fill the Falkirk Stadium 1,314 times over.
Malcolm Allan’s, which celebrated its 60th anniversary this year, has been working with Asda for more than 30 years. Asda now stocks more than 46 product lines from the company in all its Scottish stores.
Asda’s regional buying manager for Scotland, Brian O’Shea said: “We are very proud to support local suppliers.”
