City’s online shoppers loving gifts from indie street

Rebecca ChristensenThe new online retail business launched by Rebecca Christensen, the former comms officer at Standard Life and Nucleus Financial, is beginning to pick up momentum in the run-up to Christmas.

Rebecca has signed up 42 companies to Lovefromindiest, a virtual high street made up of Edinburgh’s independent businesses, mainly gift shops. The website received a thousand visitors in the first week after its launch on 1 November.

The idea is to provide subscribers with a single online point of sale so they can choose gifts from a variety of shops around the city.

An added plus is that rather than challenging bricks and mortar shops it is providing them with an extra sales outlet as visitors acquire vouchers to be redeemed by the recipient.

Among those signed up are toy shops, beauticians, restaurants and even hair salons.

“You can buy vouchers for books and flowers, but also for a hair appointment or maybe a child’s first pair of shoes,” says Rebecca.

“This is not a voucher scheme that promotes discounts, it’s about thoughtful and personal gifts from the city’s independents.”
