Raimes marks 200th birthday with two deals

raimesOne of Scotland’s oldest family businesses has tied up a deal that will expand a locally-run pharmacy chain.

Raimes Clark & Co – which trades as Lindsay & Gilmour – has acquired two pharmacies after securing £3 million in bank support.

HSBC has financed the purchase of John A Smith and Craigmillar Pharmacy in Edinburgh taking the total number of pharmacies in the Raimes chain to 28.

The two outlets employ 22 staff between them, bringing Lindsay & Gilmour’s total number of employees to more than 260 across the expanded group.

The acquisitions take place in the family-run company’s 200th year, making it ten years older than Lindsay & Gilmour which began trading from its current site in Edinburgh’s Elm Row.

Nigel Cumming, chairman of Raimes Clark & Co, said: “As ambitious business owners we are always looking for the next investment opportunity to support our growth plans.” 

The finance was allocated from HSBC’s £10 billion national fund to support SMEs, of which £450 million is designated to Scottish firms.
